Human Trafficking in United States

Updated: Apr 16, 2020

-In America, people are swiped right off our streets, often never to be seen again. California leads the union in trafficking activities, but this crisis is happening throughout the nation and the world.

-A research was conducted in Florida to study youth who run away from foster care and get trafficked. Researchers connect this to kids who have runaway episodes and those who have been put in multiple foster cares, or those kids who have lived with multiple families that they are the ones who experience trafficking.

The researcher, Mr. Latzman states that, “For most (70%) youth with a HT allegation during runaway status the first identified allegation occurred during a foster care runaway episode.” This quote explains that almost 70 percent of the youth who ran away from foster care have been trafficked, which is a very high percentage.

The image above demonstrates that the number of cases are increasing for human trafficking prosecutions. This is a positive turn of events in more cases that are prosecuted, the less traffickers will remain on the streets.

Do You Think America is Doing to Stop this Crisis?

ALMOST 77% OF THE POPULATION THINKS AMERICA IS NOT DOING ENOUGH TO STOP THIS CRISIS!

To learn more about human trafficking in the U.S. I chose to conduct my own research. In a questionnaire that I distributed, I asked,  “Do you think the United States is doing enough to stop human trafficking. ” From the 13 people who responded to my survey, 76.9% of them think that the United States is not doing enough to stop this crisis.

The U.S. government has a lot of responsibilities. However, the safety of every citizen must remain a priority. At the end of the day, the citizens need to form a coalition to prevent trafficking; together with governmental efforts, this crisis can be eliminated.

--This crisis needs to receive more awareness from the citizens and the government of the United States.

--This is a serious problem that must change immediately. The government needs to report every case they receive. The general public also needs to take responsibility by reporting suspected cases of trafficking and suspicious activity
